Your existing history is useful work
A tracking account can hold more than a count of finished shows. It may preserve what you dropped, paused, rewatched and plan to start. SIMKL organizes films, TV and anime and advertises history imports, automatic tracking and personalized recommendations. SIMKL's official overview.
| What you need | SIMKL | ReelRecs |
|---|---|---|
| Maintain detailed progress | Watching, planned, completed and other tracking states | Ratings and saved choices for personal discovery |

| Inspect a candidate | Tracking and discovery information | Read the personal score explanation, then check providers |
SIMKL's plan comparison places its personalized recommendation feature in PRO and VIP. Free tracking, paid features and ways to earn PRO status are different parts of its offer. Check the current feature table for the exact tools you want. SIMKL plans.
Decide whether you want a new system or another decision aid
If you already use SIMKL to follow several shows and anime series, keep that history while trying ReelRecs. A recommendation comparison does not require migrating your records first.
Create a ReelRecs account and rate titles you remember well. That setup is independent of SIMKL. There is no implied account connection, automatic import or synchronization between the two apps. Keep detailed episode progress in your tracker and use ReelRecs to investigate a manageable set of next-watch candidates.
For someone starting from a spreadsheet or another tracker, SIMKL's documented imports may be important. For someone who mainly wants help deciding among three films on a Friday night, those tracking features may be less central. The amount of structure worth keeping depends on the job you actually perform.
Check whether an explanation changes your choice
Bring one film you already want to see into ReelRecs. Search by title and year, open its Rec Score explanation and compare the reason with your own expectations. Read the premise and runtime before opening provider options.
The ReelRecs title-check example follows Past Lives through search, a personal prediction and listed rental options. The test profile's Rec Score is 7.0. That number is a prediction for the profile, while your own ratings can lead to a different result.
A useful response may be “I want this, but another night.” Save it if so. After watching a film or show, give an honest rating so your taste profile reflects the result. You can do this without turning ReelRecs into a duplicate episode ledger.
When to keep SIMKL as your main tool
Keep SIMKL at the center if automated records, imports, anime organization or detailed progress are essential. Its personal recommendations may already answer your discovery question as well. Try ReelRecs if you want to inspect a candidate through its own personal score-and-reason workflow.
The ReelRecs iPhone download is free. Your initial effort goes into account and taste setup, and viewing access is separate. Before paying for any tracker tier, identify the specific feature you need rather than treating a large feature list as a reason to subscribe.
Checked October 23, 2026 using official SIMKL product and plan pages. No SIMKL import or connected-tracking task was performed. The ReelRecs example was captured October 15 in version 1.0.43.
