A watchlist has to survive the return trip
Saving a film is only the first half of the job. A useful watchlist lets you recover the correct title, remember why it interested you and decide whether it fits the evening. Choose according to that return trip.
| What you want to keep | Option to consider | Why it belongs on the shortlist |
|---|---|---|
| Personal movie and TV candidates | ReelRecs | Reopen a saved title and inspect its personal score and reason |
| Films alongside your viewing diary | Letterboxd | Watchlist, diary and member lists share an established film routine |
| Shared or themed collections | Queue | Its developer documents custom lists and collaboration |
| Titles across streaming services | JustWatch | One watchlist links discovery with provider information |
These are feature-based choices from current official sources. The same-title retrieval task below was observed in ReelRecs; the table does not claim that every competitor completed the identical test.
One title saved, left and found again
In our recorded walkthrough, an existing rated profile opens Past Lives (2023), showing personal Rec Score 7.0. The viewer taps the bookmark, leaves the title and opens Profile. Under Bookmarks, See all reveals the saved collection. Past Lives can be reopened with its filled bookmark and personal score still visible.
The profile also has a Ranked section. That distinction matters: Bookmarks records something to consider later, while ratings record an opinion about something watched. Saving Past Lives left the account's count of ranked titles unchanged. This example was captured October 15, 2026 in version 1.0.43.
ReelRecs is a good fit when the next step is assessing the saved film's personal appeal. It should not be chosen on an assumption that a bookmark automatically creates a review, custom folder or transferred diary.
Keep organization proportional to the problem
A person who watches once a week may only need a short pool of possibilities. Someone coordinating a film club may need separate themed collections and collaboration. Queue documents that latter kind of organization. Letterboxd is useful when films and the conversations around them already live there.
For a household whose main issue is finding a playable title, JustWatch combines a list with streaming lookup and also provides personal recommendations. Confirm the final offer in the provider itself, because an entry on a list can remain after availability changes.
Check portability before moving years of history
Import and export are separate product features. Do not assume a list can move just because both apps recognize the same films. Keep the original until you have checked the titles, years and fields that matter to you. ReelRecs' demonstrated route is manual title search and saving.
Queue advertises bringing in a text list from Notes or a spreadsheet. Treat that as a reason to investigate its current import workflow, including any account or plan requirements, rather than a guarantee every messy entry will match correctly.
Try the next evening before migrating the archive
Save three titles you would realistically consider. Leave the app and recover one when choosing again. Check whether you can distinguish the remake, read enough information to decide and reach a current viewing offer. If the return feels natural, keep using the list. If you keep opening a different app out of habit, move the small current shortlist there before adding more.
