Compare movie apps
Movie recommendation apps based on movies you like
ReelRecs and Taste both use opinions about movies and shows to build personal recommendations. ReelRecs lets you inspect a title’s personal Rec Score and explanation. Taste describes matching people with similar preferences. Choose a continuing profile when you want your ratings to inform future evenings.

Give the app more than one favorite
“Movies like my favorite” leaves a lot unsaid. Someone can love Arrival for its emotional story but find another slow science-fiction film frustrating. A useful starting profile includes clear favorites, clear dislikes and mixed reactions across films you have actually watched.
Consider this illustrative preference brief: you enjoyed the emotional stakes in Arrival, liked the tension in Ex Machina, and found the pace of another acclaimed science-fiction film difficult. Those opinions are an example of how to think about your ratings, not results from a tested account. Rate the actual titles in the product; use any available explanation to check whether the result speaks to the part of the film you valued.
Compare the information going in and coming out
| Question | ReelRecs | Taste | A one-off recommendation conversation |
|---|---|---|---|
| How do I start? | Account and taste setup using titles you know | Its official process starts with ratings and streaming subscriptions | Describe favorites, dislikes and tonight's constraints |
| What can I inspect? | A title’s personal Rec Score and its available explanation | Taste-weighted recommendations and reviews, the emphasis of its published description | The response’s reasons, with title and access facts checked separately |
| How do I continue? | Keep rating watched titles and return to the same profile | Grow the profile with ratings and other supported feedback | Continued context depends on the tool and settings |
| How do I retain a candidate? | Bookmark it and recover it from the saved list | Taste provides saved titles/watchlist functionality | Keep the conversation or record the title somewhere reliable |
A product accepting ratings does not establish that its recommendations will be more accurate for you. The useful comparison is whether its suggestions, reasons and return workflow help your actual choices.
What you can see in ReelRecs
In the documented For You example, a rated profile receives Killers of the Flower Moon with a personal score of 8.0. Opening its explanation connects the suggestion to prior ratings, including GoodFellas, while identifying a difference in the film's era. The reader can agree with that reasoning or decide the film is unsuitable tonight.
You can also start with a known title. Search for something a friend suggested, check the year, and read its score and description. This is useful when the source of discovery is a conversation, a review or another app. ReelRecs does not need to originate every candidate to help with the decision.
Keep the feedback meaningful
Do not rate an unseen title as if you watched it merely to make the profile look complete. Save it as a possibility instead. When a film you have seen receives the wrong impression in your profile, review the opinion you supplied before assuming that another hundred ratings will solve the problem.
Use mixed examples deliberately. Loving a comedy and a thriller does not make your taste inconsistent. Your reaction can depend on characters, pace, emotional weight and the occasion. A genre label is a starting point for discussion, not a full explanation of your preferences.
Choose a repeatable routine
Try the product with a manageable set of honest ratings, inspect a few candidates, and save one you would consider. Return to that saved title on another evening. If you can understand why it was suggested and recover it without restarting the search, the continuing profile is doing useful work.
Use a one-off conversation when your request is unusually specific or you want to explain a feeling in your own words. Use a continuing recommendation app when you want ratings and saved choices available again. Watching still happens through the relevant provider.
