How to keep movie recommendations from friends
Save the exact movie or show in ReelRecs, including the correct year. Keep the friend’s name and reason in your usual conversation or notes if you want that context later. When choosing, reopen the bookmark and assess your own fit and current access.

Capture the useful part of the recommendation
A friend saying “you would like this” supplies more than a title. They may know you enjoy a certain relationship, setting or kind of humor. Ask what made them think of you before the conversation moves on.
You only need a small record: the title and year, the person who mentioned it, and a phrase about why. “Past Lives (2023), Sam, because I liked quiet stories about choices people did not make” will be easier to interpret next month than a screenshot of a poster alone.
Save the correct title
Search the name in ReelRecs and check the year and format. Open the title page before tapping its bookmark. If the suggestion is ambiguous, ask whether the friend means the film or the series rather than guessing.
The save-and-recover guide follows Past Lives from its title page into Profile → Bookmarks → See all and back. That gives the recommendation a place to return to when you are ready to choose.
Keep attribution and the friend's reason in the original message or a short note. You do not need to move an entire conversation into the app to preserve its useful meaning.
Distinguish three kinds of enthusiasm
| What happened | What you know | Next useful action |
|---|---|---|
| A friend loved the film | It worked for that person | Ask which part they think would work for you |
| A friend thinks you will like it | They are making a prediction about your taste | Compare their reason with your current interest |
| You bookmarked it | You want to keep the possibility | Reopen and decide when an occasion arrives |
A spoken recommendation does not become an in-app Friend Score. That score has its own available ratings and followed-user context. Read the label and any supporting reviews before treating a number as the recommending person's opinion.
Return with a real evening in mind
When choosing later, open Bookmarks and select a small set. Recover the friend's reason, then inspect your personal score and explanation. The two sources may agree for different reasons, or one may reveal a mismatch worth considering.
If you want a light film tonight and the recommendation is emotionally demanding, keep it for another day. A recommendation can be good without being urgent. Check the provider and any price when you are ready, because the service available during the original conversation may have changed.
Close the loop when you watch
Record your own reaction in ReelRecs. If you want to reply to the friend, mention the specific element they identified rather than only reporting a score. “You were right about the dialogue” tells them more about your taste than a polite thanks alone.
If you did not enjoy it, your rating should still be honest. Keeping recommendations from friends is useful because it preserves possibilities and conversations, not because it obliges you to agree with every suggestion.
