One favorite can point in several directions
A movie can appeal because of its atmosphere, performances, pacing or subject. A list of similar titles gives you a useful starting point, but you still need to decide which similarity matters.
TasteDive's official overview describes immediate suggestions for visitors and optional taste profiles. Its range includes films, television, music, books, games and podcasts. Its current site also supports reviews and lists. TasteDive overview.

Add a contrasting favorite
Suppose you liked Ex Machina. An initial search might be about science fiction, but perhaps what you want is tense conversation in a contained setting. Now consider a contrasting favorite such as Before Sunrise. The overlap might be people gradually revealing themselves through conversation, rather than genre.
This is an editorial way to describe your taste, not a claim about the exact titles either app will recommend. It gives you a better question to ask of any result: does this suggestion preserve the quality I enjoyed, or simply share a label?
TasteDive is useful for open-ended exploration, especially if that thought takes you toward a book or a piece of music. ReelRecs becomes relevant when you want to choose a film or show and connect the decision to an ongoing profile of watched-title ratings.
Investigate a candidate in ReelRecs
Create an account and complete taste setup, including titles you liked and ones that missed for you. Search for a candidate you discovered anywhere. Check its year and type before opening the detail page, then inspect the personal score and its reason.
The known-title walkthrough shows this process for Past Lives. An existing profile receives Rec Score 7.0, opens the explanation and checks provider categories. Your score can differ. The useful question is whether the reason sounds relevant to the kind of evening you want.
Read the premise as well. Similarity can lead to an intriguing title with a very different emotional intensity. Save it if you want to investigate later, and confirm the actual provider offer before starting playback or paying.
Keep exploration separate from commitment
You do not have to stop using TasteDive to use ReelRecs. Let a broad discovery service introduce possibilities. Bring the most promising film candidates into a shortlist that you can revisit, then make the final choice against your taste, time and access.
If you mainly enjoy browsing related culture without building another account, TasteDive's visitor path is a good reason to stay. Try ReelRecs when your recurring question is whether a particular movie will fit you. Its iPhone download is free; personalization begins after account and rating setup.
Official TasteDive information checked October 23, 2026. The favorite-pair example is a suggested reasoning exercise, not an observed recommendation result. ReelRecs's numerical example comes from its October 15 version 1.0.43 walkthrough.
