The Apartment
ComedyDramaRomance125 min
Insurance clerk C.C. Baxter has found an ugly route up the ladder at a giant New York company: he lends his apartment to executives for their affairs and waits outside until they’re done. Jack Lemmon is Baxter, a minor office worker whose borrowed prestige depends on other men’s bad behavior. Shirley MacLaine’s Fran Kubelik, the elevator operator he quietly admires, is closer to that arrangement than he realizes. As Christmas gives way to New Year’s in Manhattan, Baxter’s convenient side deal turns into a problem he can’t keep at arm’s length.
