Muffin Brenner’s wedding to Dino Corelli is meant to be a grand society affair, but the ceremony and reception begin to unravel almost as soon as the guests arrive. Desi Arnaz Jr. is Dino, the groom at the center of a gathering where the two families eye each other warily, the priest falters, and security guards hover over the presents. Carol Burnett’s bride’s mother tries to keep the day on track as drinking, affairs, and old secrets crowd the ballroom, while an elderly relative dies upstairs. Robert Altman turns the wedding into a sprawling ensemble portrait of money, manners, and family strain.
