An American couple riding the Trans-Siberian Railway from Beijing to Moscow see their trip home turn dangerous after they befriend another pair of Western travelers. Emily Mortimer is Jessie, whose unease builds when her husband Roy (Woody Harrelson) gets separated from the group during a stop. As the train cuts through Siberia, Carlos (Eduardo Noriega) and Abby (Kate Mara) prove harder to read than they first seemed, and a Russian detective played by Ben Kingsley keeps turning up at the worst moment. Snow, cramped compartments, murder, and shifting loyalties close in around Jessie as the journey heads west.
