Atari: Game Over
Documentary66 min
A New Mexico landfill dig opens onto a larger story about Atari’s collapse and the rumor that millions of unsold E.T. cartridges were dumped in the desert after the 1983 video game crash. The film follows the excavation while folding in interviews with Atari founder Nolan Bushnell, E.T. designer Howard Scott Warshaw, and others who were there when the company rose fast and fell hard. As the search moves forward, the documentary ties one notorious game to a stubborn piece of gaming folklore and the scramble to figure out what actually ended up buried there.
