After his execution is staged, Cal Lynch wakes in the custody of the Abstergo Foundation, which claims his bloodline holds the key to a buried past. Through a machine that lets him relive ancestral memories, he is thrust into 15th-century Spain, where his ancestor Aguilar moves through the Spanish Inquisition as a member of the Assassin Brotherhood. Aguilar is sworn to keep the Apple of Eden, an artifact said to hold the secret of human free will, out of enemy hands. As Cal spends more time inside Aguilar’s life, the line between memory and present danger starts to thin. Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard lead a story that ties rooftop escapes, secret orders, and modern corporate power into the same struggle.
