The Death of Mr. Lazarescu

ComedyDrama153 min

After severe headaches and stomach cramps, 63-year-old Mr. Lăzărescu (Ion Fiscuteanu) calls for an ambulance and spends the night being taken from one Bucharest hospital to the next as his condition worsens. The one person who stays with him is Luminita Gheorghiu's medic Mioara, pushing back against dismissive questions, rushed exams, and a medical system that keeps passing him along. As the hours drag on, the film follows the small humiliations and absurd procedures of the ordeal, finding dark comedy in the gap between bureaucratic routine and one man's increasingly urgent need for care.
