1945 Leningrad is still wrecked by war, and Iya is trying to piece together a life while working as a nurse among wounded, traumatized soldiers. Viktoria Miroshnichenko is Iya, a towering young woman whose bond with her friend Masha becomes the center of the story. When Masha returns, Vasilisa Perelygina brings a sharper, restless energy to a city where buildings, bodies, and routines are all still broken. As the two women search for hope and some way forward, their friendship carries the strain of survival in a place still living with the aftermath of World War II.
