The Seventh Continent

The story

Over three years in Austria, a middle-class family moves through work, school, and household routine while quietly preparing for something darker. Birgit Doll's Anna, her husband Georg (Dieter Berner), and their young daughter keep to the rhythms of urban daily life: commutes, meals, bills, small mishaps, polite conversations. As minor disruptions brush against their carefully ordered world, the family’s apparent calm starts to feel increasingly deliberate. Michael Haneke’s debut feature fixes on repetition and domestic detail, turning an engineer’s office, an optometrist’s shop, and a tidy apartment into the frame for a private, unsettling plan.
