Thirteen-year-old Christiane slips from boredom and alienation into West Berlin’s club scene, where heroin begins to overtake school, family, and any sense of ordinary teenage life. Natja Brunckhorst is Christiane, a teenager drawn into a tight circle of young users and into a relationship with Detlef (Thomas Haustein), a male prostitute struggling with the same addiction. Uli Edel keeps the focus close to her world of discos, stations, and street corners as it steadily narrows around her. David Bowie also appears as himself, tying the film to the city’s 1970s music scene.
