A widowed doctor spends his days making house calls and his nights avoiding anything that looks like commitment. His routine changes when he meets a recently divorced woman who has little patience for his smooth, casual approach. What starts as flirtation turns into a push-pull relationship, with each trying to keep control while their lives stay tangled in ex-spouses, patients, and family demands. As the romance lurches between attraction and aggravation, his breezy confidence runs up against someone who refuses to make things easy. Walter Matthau and Glenda Jackson lead a story that mixes romantic sparring with the small crises and interruptions of everyday life.
