The State of Things
Drama125 min
A film crew is stranded on the Portuguese coast when a troubled production runs out of film stock and money. With shooting halted, the cast and crew drift through days of waiting, arguing, and wondering whether the movie can continue at all. Their director, Friedrich, can do little on set but watch the project stall, until the disappearance of the producer turns a stalled shoot into a search. He leaves for Los Angeles to track down the man holding the money and answers, moving from a suspended workplace crisis into a city where the production’s problems seem tied to something larger. Directed by Wim Wenders, the film follows both the paralysis and the chase it sets in motion.
