Carmen
DramaRomance152 min
In early 19th-century Seville, Carmen's affair with the sergeant Don José pulls him away from the army and into a relationship neither of them wants on the same terms. Julia Migenes is Carmen, a factory worker whose independence and shifting desires unsettle everyone around her. Plácido Domingo's Don José abandons duty to follow her, then watches her attention turn toward the bullfighter Escamillo (Ruggero Raimondi). Francesco Rosi's film version of Bizet's opera uses streets, plazas, and countryside around Seville to ground the story's love triangle in everyday spaces as jealousy and possessiveness close in.
