Milk

Drama128 min

In late-1970s San Francisco, Harvey Milk goes from neighborhood shop owner to a rising political force, building a gay rights movement while running for the Board of Supervisors. Sean Penn is Milk, organizing on Castro Street, courting voters, and pushing into a city establishment slow to accept him. Around him are Scott Smith (James Franco), his close partner, and Dan White (Josh Brolin), a fellow politician whose uneasy relationship with Milk brings added pressure inside City Hall. Gus Van Sant’s film follows the early campaigns, the coalition-building, and the public battles that turned Milk into a national figure.
