After a factory closes in a small Hungarian village, the people left behind wait for a promised cash payment while word spreads that Irimiás, long believed dead, is coming back. As the story moves among a doctor, three couples, and other residents, poverty, suspicion, and the wreckage of post-Communist life shape every conversation and plan. Mihály Víg and Putyi Horváth are part of the ensemble as Béla Tarr tracks the village through overlapping perspectives, a nonlinear structure, and stark black-and-white images of rain, mud, farm buildings, and the local pub.
