Werckmeister Harmonies
DramaMystery145 min
Lars Rudolph is János, a guileless young man in a small Hungarian town where ordinary life starts to curdle after a traveling circus arrives with a giant whale and a shadowy figure known as the Prince. As rumors spread and crowds gather, János finds himself watching a mood of suspicion and unrest turn into open violence. His uncle György (Peter Fitz), preoccupied with music and the idea of harmony, offers a different response to the town’s unraveling. Béla Tarr and Ágnes Hranitzky stage the story in stark black and white, where bars, streets, and public squares feel increasingly strange, unstable, and full of threat.
