Babette's Feast

Drama104 min

In late 19th-century Denmark, a French housekeeper with a mysterious past brings an unexpected upheaval to a small circle of severe, devout villagers through the preparation of a lavish meal. Stéphane Audran is Babette, moving quietly through a community defined by charity, restraint, and religious routine; Bodil Kjer is among the women in the austere world she enters. What begins as domestic service gradually turns into a reckoning over hospitality, appetite, and the place of earthly pleasure in a tightly ordered life.
