Rosa Luxemburg

DocumentaryDramaWar123 min

In an Germany shaken by war, censorship, and political division, Rosa Luxemburg fights to build a socialist movement without giving up her own voice. The film follows her through speeches, organizing, prison sentences, and bitter arguments inside the left, where allies disagree over strategy and violence as the country moves toward crisis. Her public struggle is tied to a private life shaped by friendships, love, and long stretches of isolation under state surveillance. Barbara Sukowa plays Luxemburg as a leader whose ideas keep putting her at odds with both the authorities and her comrades, in Margarethe von Trotta’s portrait of political commitment under pressure.
