The Last Train
DramaRomanceWar95 min
As the German army enters France, Julien Maroyeur boards an evacuation train and meets Anna Kupfer, a Jewish German woman fleeing in the same direction. Jean-Louis Trintignant is Julien, one of countless civilians caught up in the exodus, while Romy Schneider's Anna arrives as both a stranger and a fellow refugee. Their connection takes shape in the crowded, unsettled space of a train carrying people away from the front, with war pressing in just beyond the windows. Pierre Granier-Deferre's film keeps its focus on that meeting and the fragile bond that forms under pressure.
