The Naughty Nineties
Comedy76 min
When cardsharps seize a Mississippi showboat in the 1890s and turn it into a floating gambling house, a ham actor and his bumbling partner scramble to help the vessel’s kindly captain win it back. Bud Abbott and Lou Costello are the duo at the center, working their familiar fast-talker-and-flustered-sidekick dynamic through a riverboat full of swindlers, performers, and crooked deals. Alan Curtis and Rita Johnson figure into the mix as the takeover pulls in romantic complications and backstage scheming. The action moves between stage acts, saloon tables, and hurried plots to outmaneuver the new owners.
