A middle-aged Washington Senators fan is so desperate to see his team beat the New York Yankees that he makes a deal with the Devil. In exchange, he gets a new body and a chance to join the Senators as the young slugger Joe Hardy, suddenly turning the pennant race upside down. But the bargain comes with a deadline, and every home run pulls him further from the wife and ordinary life he left behind. As the season heats up, the Devil sends the sultry Lola, played by Gwen Verdon, to keep Joe from backing out. Tab Hunter stars as the gifted newcomer caught between baseball glory, temptation, and the cost of getting exactly what he wished for.
