American millionaire Michael Brandon falls for Nicole de Loiselle on the French Riviera and quickly proposes, only to find that his seven previous marriages are a problem Nicole has no intention of ignoring. Gary Cooper is Michael, rich, impulsive, and used to getting his way; Claudette Colbert’s Nicole refuses to become wife number eight and starts working out a strategy of her own once the marriage is on. Edward Everett Horton appears as Nicole’s titled but broke father, and David Niven is on hand as her friend Albert. The setup turns their courtship into a polished contest of pride, money, and leverage.
