Head of State

ComedyDrama95 min

When a presidential nominee dies in the middle of the race, Washington, D.C., alderman Mays Gilliam is drafted as the Democratic Party’s last-minute replacement. Chris Rock is Mays, a blunt local politician with no national profile and little patience for campaign polish, suddenly pushed into a White House run against the sitting vice president. As his straight-talk starts cutting through the usual stump-speech routine, Mays pulls in Bernie Mac’s Mitch, his hotheaded older brother, to join the ticket. The campaign trail turns into a scramble of party damage control, family friction, and national attention focused on a candidate nobody expected to matter.
