Sam Gillen (Jean-Claude Van Damme) is an escaped convict who steps in when a widow and her two young children are threatened by developers determined to drive them off their land. Rosanna Arquette's single mother becomes an uneasy ally as Sam tries to protect the family while staying ahead of the authorities and the men sent to do the developer's dirty work. The setup keeps the action close to home: rural property, back-road chases, hand-to-hand fights, and a drifter with a criminal past caught in someone else's land battle.
