The Enemy Below
ActionAdventureDramaThrillerWar98 min
In the Atlantic during World War II, an American destroyer escort picks up signs of a German U-boat hunting below the surface. What follows is a running duel of sonar pings, depth charges, false moves, and narrow escapes as each captain tries to outthink the other before his crew runs out of luck. Robert Mitchum commands the U.S. ship, while Curt Jürgens leads the submarine with the same cold discipline and tactical nerve. The fight becomes more than a chase: every attack exposes both vessels, the sea itself limits every option, and the two officers are forced into a contest where a single mistake can send hundreds of men to the bottom.
