Daguerreotypes

Documentary80 min

Working from the Rue Daguerre where she had long lived, Agnès Varda films the small shops and the people who keep them running, building a street-level portrait of everyday life in Paris. People like Lucien Bossy and Marcelle Debrossian become recurring presences as the camera moves from storefront to storefront, gathering brief conversations, routines, and neighborhood details. Because the street is also Varda’s home, the film stays close to its daily rhythms, with each vignette adding to a portrait of one block and the residents and merchants who shape it.
