The Swindle
ComedyCrimeDrama92 min
Aging con man Augusto, embodied by Broderick Crawford, moves through 1950s Italy with two younger partners: Carlo, nicknamed Picasso, and Roberto, whose head is full of pop-star dreams. Directed by Federico Fellini, the film follows the trio’s petty swindles and the personal complications that gather around them, with Richard Basehart bringing cool self-possession to Picasso and Franco Fabrizi giving Roberto a restless, showy streak. As mishaps pile up, Augusto’s hold over the racket starts to slip, and the comic rhythms of the scams sit alongside a harder look at deception, vanity, and life on the margins.
