Lady in the Lake

CrimeDramaMysteryThriller105 min

Private eye Philip Marlowe wants out of detective work and into crime writing, but magazine editor Adrienne Fromsett brings him a case instead: find the missing wife of her boss, Mr. Kingsby. Robert Montgomery is Marlowe, following a routine assignment that turns messier as bodies begin to surface. Audrey Totter's Fromsett keeps the investigation tied to the world of publishing and money, while figures around Kingsby complicate every lead. Much of the mystery is staged from Marlowe's point of view, giving this Chandler noir a first-person angle as he moves from office meetings to a widening murder case.
