After a whirlwind courtship, Katharine Hepburn is Ann Hamilton, the sheltered daughter of a chemist who marries a wealthy industrialist she barely knows. Robert Taylor’s Alan Garrow remakes her into a polished society wife, but his charm turns cold whenever Ann asks about Michael, the brother whose name no one wants spoken. As fragments of Alan’s past begin to surface, Ann finds herself isolated inside a marriage built on omissions, status, and rising fear. Robert Mitchum enters the story as Michael, the absent brother at the center of the household’s unease.
