The Brothers and Sisters of the Toda Family
Drama105 min
After her husband’s death leaves the Toda family in debt, a widowed mother must sell the family home and depend on children who are scarcely happy to take her in. Mitsuko Yoshikawa is the mother at the center of the upheaval, while Mieko Takamine is her youngest, unmarried daughter, forced to follow as one household after another makes space only reluctantly. As the family rearranges itself, old resentments and questions of duty surface among brothers, sisters, and in-laws, turning a domestic crisis into a close look at status, obligation, and the fraying bonds inside a once-stable home.
