Sun in the Last Days of the Shogunate
ComedyDrama110 min
Unable to pay his bill at a high-class brothel in the final years of the shogunate, Frankie Sakai’s Saheji winds up stranded there, working off his debt while turning himself into the house’s most resourceful middleman. He runs errands, smooths over disputes, and finds a way to collect a commission on nearly everything. Around him, courtesans, customers, samurai, and political activists crowd the halls, turning the brothel into a comic cross-section of 1860s Japan. Sachiko Hidari and Yoko Minamida are part of the bustling ensemble as private hustles and public upheaval start to overlap.
