In late-19th-century New York, two vaudevillians who supplement their act with small-time cons decide to attempt a bank robbery far beyond their reach, putting themselves in the path of the era’s most famous thief. James Caan and Elliott Gould are Harry and Walter, a pair of hustlers whose grand plan depends on outmaneuvering a legendary bank robber and winning over a crusading newspaperwoman. The setup mixes stage-show bumbling with period heist plotting, as the two chase a score that keeps getting bigger and messier the closer they get to it.
