After a cemetery attack, Barbara (Judith O'Dea) flees to an isolated Pennsylvania farmhouse, where Duane Jones is Ben, the stranger already boarding up doors and windows as the dead gather outside. More survivors arrive, each with their own ideas about safety, authority, and whether the cellar is shelter or trap. Radio and TV reports sketch a crisis spreading across the Northeast while the house becomes a pressure cooker of fear, accusation, and survival. George A. Romero’s 1968 film turns a simple barricade premise into a bleak, close-quarters standoff with flesh-eating ghouls just beyond the walls.
