Fourteen-year-old Joe is caught in the middle as his family starts coming apart in small-town 1960s Montana. Ed Oxenbould is Joe, the only child of Jeanette and Jerry, a housewife and a golf pro whose already frayed marriage shifts further when Jerry loses his job and heads off to fight a nearby wildfire. Left at home, Carey Mulligan's Jeanette and Joe try to keep the household running while Jake Gyllenhaal's Jerry disappears into the smoke, and Joe is forced to watch the adults around him change in ways he can’t control.
