A Raisin in the Sun
DramaRomance128 min
Walter Lee Younger (Sidney Poitier) lives in a cramped Chicago apartment with his wife, son, sister, and mother, straining against a life that feels boxed in by money and segregation. When an insurance check offers the family a chance to change its circumstances, the Youngers clash over how that money should be used and whose hopes will shape the future. Claudia McNeil's Lena stands at the center of the household, trying to hold the family together as old expectations and new ambitions collide. The story stays close to the apartment's pressures while the wider barriers of midcentury America press in from outside.
