East of Eden
Drama118 min
In California’s Salinas Valley around World War I, James Dean is Cal Trask, a restless young man locked in rivalry with his brother Aron for the approval of their father. Raymond Massey’s Adam Trask favors the dutiful son, leaving Cal to chase business schemes, push against family rules, and search for answers about the mother kept at a distance from their lives. Julie Harris moves through the conflict as Abra, whose bond with Cal complicates the divide between the brothers. Old resentments, wartime tensions, and a household split by secrets give the story its shape.
