The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser

Drama110 min

After spending his first 17 years chained in a tiny cellar with only a toy horse for company, Kaspar Hauser arrives in Nuremberg in 1828 barely able to walk or speak, carrying a mysterious note. Bruno S. is Kaspar, a young man thrust from total isolation into contact with a public trying to understand who he is and where he came from. Werner Herzog’s retelling stays close to the historical case and uses the text of letters associated with Hauser. Walter Ladengast appears among the adults who receive, question, and observe the foundling as his sudden presence unsettles the city.
