Alice in the Cities

Drama113 min

Rüdiger Vogler is Philip Winter, a German journalist drifting across the United States with a Polaroid camera and a worsening case of writer’s block. Trying to get home, he meets a German woman and her young daughter, Alice (Yella Rottländer), at the airport, and a temporary favor turns into a longer, uncertain responsibility when the child is left in his care. Their trip back through Germany unfolds in black and white, moving through airports, train stations, hotel rooms, and city streets as Philip and Alice circle each other, clash, and slowly settle into an uneasy companionship.
