Bento Harassment

The story

Single mother Kaori is running out of ways to reach her high-school daughter, whose rebellious silence has turned their home life into a standoff. Ryoko Shinohara is Kaori, who starts packing Futaba’s daily bento with pointed, embarrassing messages meant to force some kind of response. As those lunches make their way from the kitchen to the classroom, Kyôko Yoshine’s Futaba has to navigate her mother’s unusual mix of discipline, frustration, and outreach. In contemporary Japan, ordinary routines—school lunches, mornings at home, small family rituals—become the ground where this mother and daughter test each other.
