Dumped after six years and stalled in Los Angeles, Mike (Jon Favreau) spends his nights nursing a breakup while trying to make it as an actor. His friend Trent, with Vince Vaughn supplying the swagger and nonstop advice, drags him through 1990s Hollywood bars, parties, and late-night calls in hopes of getting him back into circulation. Around them, a loose crew of fellow strivers turns every outing into a mix of pep talk, posturing, and embarrassment. Against the backdrop of the swing-revival scene, the film tracks Mike's push to shake off heartbreak and find his footing in a city built on image.
