On the last day of school in 1976 Texas, Randall “Pink” Floyd moves easily between jocks, stoners, and nervous incoming freshmen as one long night of hazing, parties, and aimless cruising takes shape. Jason London is Pink, a star athlete caught between his coach’s demand that he sign a no-drugs pledge and the crowd he’d rather spend the evening with. Around him, Richard Linklater follows a loose web of teens through parking lots, pool halls, and back roads, with faces like Parker Posey and Matthew McConaughey drifting in and out of the orbit. The film stays with the boredom, swagger, anxiety, and small rituals of teenage life.
