A Damsel in Distress
ComedyMusicalRomance101 min
At an English country estate, a young lady tries to escape an arranged marriage while a string of mix-ups sends her toward the wrong man. A visiting American entertainer, played by Fred Astaire, is mistaken for the secret sweetheart she has been corresponding with, and the confusion only grows once he is drawn into the household's romantic schemes. As chaperones, suitors, and busybodies crowd in, the story turns on hidden identities, crossed signals, and the effort to sort out who actually loves whom. George Burns appears in the chaos as part of the comic tangle, while the film keeps the misunderstandings moving with songs, dancing, and a steady run of near-misses.
