Hands Across the Table

ComedyRomance80 min

Regi Allen is a hotel manicurist with a practical plan: marry rich. Carole Lombard gives Regi a brisk, unsentimental edge as she works the manicure tables of an upscale hotel barbershop, where she meets Theodore Drew III, a charming loafer in Fred MacMurray's hands. The trouble is that Theodore is hunting the same kind of solution, already engaged to a wealthy woman he doesn't love. Ralph Bellamy's wealthy former pilot adds another complication to Regi's calculations. Around missed signals, class ambition, and a tangle of courtship, the film keeps its romance tied to money from the start.
