After a prison break and a botched robbery leave him wounded, Farley Granger is Bowie, a young fugitive who finds refuge with Keechie, the young woman who nurses him back to health. Cathy O'Donnell's Keechie and Bowie fall quickly into plans for a new life together, but the police are closing in, and the men Bowie escaped with have no interest in letting him disappear into ordinary life. Nicholas Ray's 1948 debut follows the pair through roadside cabins, stolen getaways, and borrowed moments of privacy, with the romance and the criminal fallout moving side by side.
