A comfortable married couple decide to drop out of corporate life, buy a Winnebago, and cross America on their own terms. David thinks he is trading boardrooms for freedom, but the fantasy starts breaking down almost as soon as the trip begins. A stop in Las Vegas turns their carefully planned escape into a financial disaster, and the two are forced to keep going while their confidence, savings, and marriage all wobble. Albert Brooks and Julie Hagerty play the pair as they chase an ideal of the open road that keeps colliding with motels, money problems, and the stubborn habits they thought they had left behind.
