The Draughtsman's Contract
ComedyCrimeDramaMystery108 min
In 1694 Wiltshire, R. Neville is a young draughtsman hired to make a dozen drawings of a country estate under terms that include both payment and a sexual arrangement. Anthony Higgins gives Neville a cool, cocksure air, while Janet Suzman’s Mrs. Herbert oversees the commission as her estranged husband is away. Moving through formal gardens and a household thick with rank and negotiation, Neville records the property with exacting care. But when Mr. Herbert’s body is discovered on the grounds, small details caught in Neville’s drawings begin to look less like scenery and more like evidence.
